Thrifty Travels: Unlocking the Secrets of Budget-Friendly Adventures

Have you ever dreamed of exploring the world but believed it was beyond your financial reach? Well, let me introduce you to someone who shattered that notion. Lisa Rajt, one of my incredible clients, has not only become a world traveling extraordinaire, but also a master of frugal and budget-friendly travel. In an interview with Lisa, she shared her remarkable travel journey from solo adventures to now exploring with her family (husband and two kids) where she has travelled to 11 countries, including England, France, Germany, and Switzerland (twice!). Lisa has also ticked off most major cities in the USA, explored Hawaii and Alaska, and experienced the beauty of 7 National Parks across the country.
Knowing that Lisa possesses invaluable insights as a frugal travel expert, I couldn't resist the opportunity to interview her and hear all her incredible tips and tricks. I'm excited to share the full video below – take a listen!
However, if you're pressed for time and unable to watch the video, don’t worry! I've compiled a comprehensive list of Lisa's suggestions. Consider this your ultimate resource to embarking on affordable adventures without compromising your bank account. Here are Lisa's top tips:
Be flexible with location, dates, lodging, and air travel. The more flexible you are the more budget friendly you will be.
Book in advance: 6-9 months for international, 4-6 months for domestic (booking Tuesday mornings or 6 to 8 weeks out are myths to finding cheap flights, BUT mid-week travel dates are always cheaper!).
Choose Airbnb when staying multiple nights for cost savings advantages like laundry facilities, kitchen access, and beach equipment (split your stay if you'd like a few nights to splurge!).
Research extensively for the best airfare deals using Google Flights and tracking websites like Going.com, Thrifty Traveler, and Secret Flying (be flexible, and if you see that a certain location consistently has cheap flights, change and go there!).
Save on food by cooking your own or finding inexpensive options for the majority of your meals.
Embrace free activities like hiking, sightseeing, and beach outings.
Adjust your budget to prioritize your preferences, such as hotel stays (if it's important to you great! but remember to cut back in other areas to make it work).
Don't forget, the joy of travel is not reserved for the privileged few. It's within reach for anyone with a sense of adventure and a willingness to be savvy with their resources, be flexible, and be willing to spending some extra time to research. Start incorporating these tips into your travel plans, and before you know it, you'll be jetting off to your dream destinations while keeping your budget intact. So, what are you waiting for? Begin your frugal travel adventure today and create memories that will last a lifetime. Bon voyage!
